What makes a woman Special?

Monday, November 28th, 2005

What makes a woman Special?

Women are special creatures- we are different than men and that difference must be taken into consideration in our training and nutritional programs.

What is it that makes women special?

  1. The obvious physical characteristics J
  2. Our monthly hormonal cycles

At different times over the past couple years, I noticed myself having extreme mood changes, symptoms of depression, complete physical exhaustion and total lack of motivation. After realizing that these symptoms came at the same time each month, I finally connected my symptoms to PMS. My PMS was negatively impacting every aspect of my life for about 2 weeks of every month! As I researched the subject I found that many women, as they have children and enter into their 30’s, have more PMS symptoms. Up to 85% of women suffer some of the 150 symptoms called PMS.

What caused my PMS? I am very healthy and fit, so why was I suffering so badly? My knowledge of nutrition led me to a possible nutrient deficiency. I started simple supplementation of key “hormonal support” nutrients including: B-6, magnesium, calcium, vitamin E and B-12.

Three months into my faithful supplementation I had my first symptom free cycle!!

Every female needs to realize the important role that vitamins and minerals play in supporting our natural hormonal cycle. Regardless of weather or not you suffer negatively from PMS, the female hormonal cycle affects every woman. As the mother of 3 young girls, I believe that from birth there is a “time of the month” for every female.

If you do suffer PMS, there is hope…before turning to an antidepressant or taking the pill for relief, please try the following supplements:

Vitamin B6*:

100mg per day

Vitamin E:

400-600 IU per day

Calcium:

1,500 mg per day

Magnesium:

800 mg per day

Fatty Acids( like fish oil or flax seed oil):

2-4 gms per day

Or you can benefit by taking one of the following great supplements:

Pinnacle PMS Care- http://store.femnutrition.com/pinpms.html

Schiff PMS Formula- http://store.femnutrition.com/schpms.html

A GREAT e-mail

I’d wanted to share this wonderful e-mailcorrespondence with all of you…

Jennifer wrote:
Michelle,

After receiving my latest issue of Oxygen Mag, I was
surfing the web
and decided to see what inspirational
stories the on-line version of oxygen

had to offer and low and behold I have found your web
site. I’m
totally and completely amazed at your body.
In fact, I’m so amazed that I
can’t stop talking about
your web site. I’ve told everyone at work who needs

a little more inspiration to log on and check your
site out.

I have two questions for you. I read that you have a
nutrition and
fitness background, how did you take your
unfit after pregnancy body
andturn it into a sold muscle
machine? I guess my question is for a

motivation factor, what was the breaking point in
which you said this
time I’m really gonna do it? And my second
question is, is it possible
to discuss a sample menu when you are
preparing for a contest? I’m
really curious what a typical diet
day is and a contest diet day is for
you? I’m sure with four
very active young children your diet might not

be as clean as you’d like it to be.

I’ve recently within the last year have left the
corporate world, went
back to school to earn my teaching degree
(after earning my bachelor’s)

and went back to waiting tables at night. I saw
your fee for on-line
training and really I just don’t have that
flexible of an income to
join. I work out with my husband and
pushes me hard but sometimes he

just doesn’t understand what it means to be a woman.
If you know what
Imean. That’s why I love your web site!

Thanks for your inspiration and motivation.
Train hard,

Jennifer

I responded:Jennifer,Thanks so much for your GREAT e-mail! I really loveyour enthusiasm.

To answer your questions:

The point at which I decided I was going to prove youcan be buff after having children came when I lookedin the mirror and I didn’t recognize the personstaring back at me. I was very unhappy with what Isaw and how I felt.In October of 2003, I decided to start training for myfirst contest and competed in March of 2004. So afteronly 6 months of intense training, I won the my firsttwo NPC figure titles only 13 months after I had my3rd and 4th children by c-section. I honestly admitthat my body was not “super solid” at that point, butI continued to work hard and shortly won 3 more titlesthat year.

As far as diet is concerned, you are right it is notsuper clean. I don’t have time to plan everythingout, so I eat the best I can. The biggest concern forme is to get my protein and veggies in daily. If I dothat on a consistant basis, I see huge results. Alsolearning to time my meals for workout performance hasbeen key. My diet varies a lot from day to day and Ichange my focus every couple weeks, so it is hard forme to give you a typical day’s menu. But when I amtrying to lean up for a contest/photoshoot my ratiosare basically 30Carb/40protein/30fat.

I am glad to hear that you enjoy lifting with yourhusband. Relish that time together and continue tochallenge yourself. Please join the Team BuffMother!Yahoo! group so that we can stay in touch. There area ton of wonderful inspirational women there who arealways willing to help you get Buff!

Have a great night,Your new friend,Michelle

Happy Holiday Monday!

Monday, November 21st, 2005

I love the Holidays! And for the first year in a long time I think they will be more enjoyable than stressful. My kids are now old enough to really enjoy the activities and will be able to cope with all the excitement.

I know that I will edulge a little more than usual this week, but it is OKAY. That’s why I work so hard the rest of the year, so that I can give myself the freedom to enjoy life’s pleasures. My resolve is to have my holiday meals, but get right back on track once my day of freedom is over so that I can enjoy the next holiday :)

I pray that all of you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving, I know I will!

God Bless,
Michelle
p.s. One of the biggest things I am thankful for is that all of you are a part of my life, Thanks!

You can have a flat tummy it just takes work!
I believe a big thing that has led to my tummy being flat after kids is the fact
